Hawaii's Unclaimed Property Program holds over $400 million in dormant accounts, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, and other assets. Because of Hawaii's unique mix of military, tourism, and transient populations, and because so many former residents have since moved to the mainland, a disproportionate share of Hawaii unclaimed property is owed to people who no longer live in the state.
